Ask the Expert: My Top 3 recommendations for visiting the land Down Under

Stephanie Graveson

As a former resident of New Zealand, here are a few of my top recommendations to make your visit Down Under feel more like home.

What to bring

The topography and environments of Australia and New Zealand vary. You might be visiting the beach one day, mountains another, and the desert on yet another, so pack accordingly. If you’re still not sure what to bring—or need some suggestions on luggage, travel accessories, and clothing—stop by any of our AAA Stores; our Member Service Counselors will be happy to assist you, and recommend some products to suit your needs. You can also visit our online Travel Store.

Take your time

If you’re driving on your own through New Zealand, make sure to allow yourself plenty of time. While the distances are not as far as we are used to in the States, the roads are often only two lanes and winding. Be patient and enjoy the journey!

Savor the flavor

Make sure to visit some of the local cafés and restaurants. Kiwi cuisine uses incredibly fresh local fruits, vegetables, and seafood. If you want something sweet, you have to try a lovely Devonshire tea with homemade scones, cream, and fresh berries. It’s to die for!
