DEARBORN, Mich., (June 10, 2020)  - Drawing from its longstanding history of ensuring safety and security for the public, AAA-The Auto Club Group (ACG) today announced it is committing an initial investment of $1 million to create programs aimed at improving social justice and equality in the communities ACG serves - specifically in the areas of bias, cultural awareness, and diversity.

AAA-ACG is a national leader in creating safe roadways and safe drivers through its extensive traffic safety and driver's education programs – and AAA's iconic School Safety Patrol program is celebrating its 100th year. The company plans on expanding these programs specifically to educate on and support safety, security, and equality during traffic stops, and to enhance community relations initiatives promoting safe travel for all.

"As an organization founded to promote safety and security, AAA believes everyone deserves the equal right to both," said Joseph J. Richardson, Jr., president and CEO of AAA-ACG.

Now in an early planning phase, AAA-ACG will develop a new internal division dedicated to promoting racial equity and equality for those adversely impacted in the communities it serves. The program will support initiatives that address socioeconomic disparities and advocate for equal justice for African Americans and people of color. AAA-ACG will incorporate these initiatives into its existing programs and implement them throughout its 14-state footprint – including in Colorado.

As a symbol of this commitment, motorists traveling alongside Michigan's Southfield Freeway between Ford Rd. and Hubbard Dr. in Dearborn will see a glowing mural on the side of AAA-ACG headquarters intended to commemorate the late George Floyd, condemn his senseless death, and celebrate this new movement for real change in American social justice.
