AAA - The Auto Club Group Dedicates $250,000 for Social Justice Scholarships
Students at five Historically Black Colleges and Universities will be eligible in first round
DENVER (Feb. 24, 2022) – As part of AAA – The Auto Club Group’s celebration of Black History Month, ACG is highlighting its commitment of $250,000 in scholarship funds to help reduce barriers for underrepresented students in higher education. The AAA Social Justice Innovator Scholarship will be offered to students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, math, and business at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) in our 14-state footprint. The first round of grants will support five Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs):
- Bethune-Cookman University (Daytona Beach, FL)
- Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC)
- Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA)
- Fisk University (Nashville, TN)
- North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC)
HBCUs comprise just three percent of the country’s colleges and universities, yet produce nearly 20% of all African American graduates. Partnership with these five institutions will help support the next generation of trailblazers while expanding the company’s pipeline for recruiting diverse talent.
“As Black History Month honors its leaders of the past and present, ACG is offering this scholarship to financially support the leaders and innovators of tomorrow,” said Keith Mobley, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility. “In addition, we will offer scholarship recipients a free, one-year AAA Classic Membership and other opportunities with ACG. Our hope is to contribute to students’ education and help prepare them for long-term careers.”
Every university partnership will span three years and annually provide at least two students with funds for course-related materials and supplies, such as textbooks. Priority should be given to students who have documented unmet financial needs. ACG will invite a new round of university partners each year for the next four years.
The AAA Social Justice Innovator Scholarship is part of The Auto Club Group’s $1 million social justice initiative, which extends year-round to create more just and equitable communities for African Americans and other people of color.
